New Mexicans have hung roja chile pimiento
ristras (Spanish for "red chili pepper strings") for centuries. As you drive around our state, you see ristras hanging practically everywhere...they're one of the most common symbols of the "Land of Enchantment."
At Christmastime, many New Mexico families now hang ristras shaped like wreaths on their front doors or mantels instead of traditional holly wreaths.
Decorating tip: "The red chili wreath is a perfect table centerpiece for Valentine's Day decorating - just lay it flat and put a white pillar candle in the center, there's nothing prettier. And in July, do the same with a blue pillar candle and a few dried white flowers tucked among the chiles for an outstanding 4th of July centerpiece." --- customer Barb Deniston, CO
