Transition from MadeInNewMexico.com to TheRealSouthwest.com
mostly complete for now...
As you may have noticed, we've changed our logo and domain name, but you
won't notice many other changes as we change our focus from just New Mexico
products to products made in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. There still may be
a few reference to MINM around on the web site, but we're trying to stamp them
out and get them changed to TheRealSouthwest.com. (Help us out: If you find a
reference to Made In New Mexico, please contact us.)
In case you were wondering: Our store in Taos, NM will remain known as Made In
New Mexico.

Watch the flags...NM, TX & AZ
We are slowly but surely migrating from selling only products Made
In New Mexico to selling products made only in New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. We
are finding some really, really neat items from AZ and TX that we're sure you're
going to love. In the next few weeks our brand and logo will change to
TheRealSouthwest.com, but we expect to leave the rest of the web site alone:
More products, same layout. However, so that you will be easily able to
differentiate between which items were made where, we have already made one
little change: Each item in our catalog is now accompanied by a flag from the
state in which it is made.

Signs of The Old West
Sorry we haven't posted here for awhile, but we haven't had much news. As we
transition from calling ourselves Made In New Mexico to The Real Southwest,
we've been looking for suppliers of interesting products that are not just Made
In New Mexico, but Made In Texas or Made In Arizona. But we recently found a
"new" supplier who was actually in our own backyard the past few years. They
make funny, handmade wooden signs
that
look like something out of the Old West. Each sign is hand-printed on a sheet of
wood and then "antiqued" to make them look like "the olden days." Choose from "Taos
Hotel" "Don't Mess With Texas" sign,
an old-style "Route 66" sign, and five others.

New classic New Mexico tinwork

One
of the most classic artforms in New Mexico is punched tin, cut into various
shapes. We are proud to have found a new New Mexico supplier for inexpensive but
high-quality tinwork: Cristina Hernandez, who learned the art of punched tin
from her father and still uses many of the tools passed down to her by her
father and grandfather. We are now carrying Cristina's
tin mirrors, wall sconces, picture frames, and holiday ornaments. Unlike the
astronomical prices for classic tinwork you might see on "museum" sites, prices
Cristina's work range from $5.99 to $47.99.

Unique bird carvings by Hector Rascon
One of our favorite New Mexico artists is master carver Hector Rascon, who is
renowned for his
carved ooden santos and angels. Hector starts with pieces of downed
trees in unique shapes that he finds in New Mexico's
forests and then carves them into wonderful figures in his studio. Always
popular in our Taos store, now we've added Hector's cute and unique
"birds
on a tree" carvings to our web site as well. They are reasonably priced at
only $21.99, and are available in free-standing and hanging versions. Sturdy
enough to hold up outdoors. Talk about a perfect gift for bird lovers!

Happy Easter and Spring 2010, to all our visitors!
The staff at Made In New Mexico wishes all of our past and future customers a
Happy Easter and/or a Happy Spring 2010. We hope the weather is nice where you
are this weekend and that, after a long winter over most of North America, you
have the opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy Spring. Your continued support of
Made In New Mexico is very much appreciated!

This just in from the "You've got to be kidding me" department!
We received this email message today:
From: Joe

To: service@madeinnewmexico.com
Subject: Please speak english
I spent half my life in the service of my country (America) of which New
Mexico is a part of. I would not have orderd anything from you had I known
that you would not have the courtesy to respond to me in the official
language of the USA. I do not know what "Buenos Dias" means and do not care
to know. I am an American.
Yes, it's true: Our automated order response email does greet
customers with "Buenos Dias." How awful, right? In 5 years of business, he's the
first to complain. Clearly, he doesn't know New Mexicans have been speaking
Spanish for over 400 years...as long as the New Englanders have been speaking
English!
Even better, he ordered CHILE POWDER. How's that for irony?
We canceled his order and told him not to shop with us again; we don't need
customers like that. He then sent us a racist diatribe. Typical.
