New Mexico has been known for its quality punched tin art work for over a century. There are now only a handful of punched tin artists in northern and central New Mexico. The art form is believed to have been brought up from old Mexico in the early 1800's, and over the years, New Mexican artists have developed their own styles.
These lovely pieces are handmade by Cristina Hernandez, who learned the art of punched tin from her father and still uses many of the tools passed down to her by her father and grandfather. A native of Santa Fe, Cristina grew up in an environment of art and beauty entertwined with religious devotion. She tries to honor this tradition in her work today.
