Common to many Native American nations, dreamcatchers are typically made from sinew strands woven in a web around a small round or tear-shaped frame. The resulting "dream-catcher" is hung as a charm on or near the bed to protect sleeping children from nightmares. The legend is that the bad dreams will get caught in the web. Feathers are often used as decoration so that good dreams could pass through the web and slide down the feathers to the sleeper.
A card describing the meaning of the dreamcatcher, along with a photo and description of the Navajo artist is included with each piece.
